So, Club Ninja reveals a Hard FM Blue Öyster Cult, the only release to my mind which can make them credible after the big "Fire Of Unknown Origin". Not perfect (some boring passages), but a very good release. Reply Notify me 3 Helpful.
Why the 80's have made "echo drums"? Why can't we have an album with a purified sound for a lot of 70's bands?) Nevertheless, Club Ninja is, for me, one of the best Hard FM album from the 80's. So, Club Ninja reveals a Hard FM Blue Öyster Cult, the only release to my mind which can make them credible after the big "Fire Of Unknown Origin".
Blue Öyster Cult's gradual disintegration continued with Club Ninja, on which original member Allen Lanier was replaced by keyboard player Tom Zvoncheck, and several compositions from outside the band were featured, notably the Leggat Brothers' "White Flags," and a couple of generic metal exercises by Bob Halligan, who had contributed much the same sort of material to Judas Priest.

By the time the tenth studio album Club Ninja was released Blue Öyster Cult had gone through a series of rises and falls. They entered the 1980s at an apparent creative and commercial end, on the tail of their first disappointing work Mirrors. It would seem we could write the Long Island boys off, but then the band managed to summon all its near-mystic strengths and released two LPs of ever-increasing quality in a row. It seemed Blue Öyster Cult were not yet ready to throw in a towel
Club Ninja is Blue Öyster Cult’s tenth album, released December 10th, 1985 in the UK and February 11th, 1986 in the US. It was intended as a comeback album because their previous album failed to reach Gold, but this album failed as well. This is also the only BÖC album not to feature Allen Lanier (keyboardist) and last album to feature Joe Bouchard (bassist). There is also a cameo by Howard Stern on When the War Comes Home.
