The Word as Law is the second studio album by Californian band Neurosis. It was released in 1990 through Lookout! Records, originally on LP only. In 1991, the album was released on CD with several re-recorded tracks from previous releases as bonus material. The Word as Law was a massive influence on an entire generation of bands including my own, Econochrist. It’s the bridge to what Neurosis would become in later years. So put it back on your turntable. The 2017 reissue of The Word As Law was completely remastered by Bob Weston at Chicago Mastering. The album's cover artwork has been reworked by Neurosis' former live visual architect Josh Graham to match the previous reissued titles.
As such, the short, angry bursts ("Double-Edged Sword," "The Choice") which hearken to their past already seem somewhat lacking in conviction; while more elaborate numbers such as "Obsequious Obsolescence," "Blisters," and especially the multifaceted "To What End?" fare slightly better.

In 1990, Neurosis released their second album, Word As Law, on vinyl. This version contained eight tracks. A year later, they released it on cd, adding seven additional bonus tracks. These included re-recordings of several songs as well as a cover and a new track. Word As Law features different production than their debut. While this by no means has a polished production, Pain Of Mind was much more raw. The gritty punk energy is not as well captured on their sophomore
