Best Coast’s Bethany Cosentino is still besotted with the glorious sulk of Sixties girl-group pop and the awesomeness of California living ( Why would you live anywhere else? she wonders on the surf-rock title track). producer/pop historian Jon Brion on board, the tales of boredom, touchy friendships and shaky relationships on her second record open up and brighten up – half of them even break the three-minute mark. Jamaica’s original pre-Marley pop star came back full force in 2012 with a warm, wondrous album that plays like a guided tour of the island’s musical past, as well as Cliff’s own. There’s ska, rock steady, roots reggae, a revelatory cover of the Clash‘s Guns of Brixton delivered in Cliff’s trademark soulful tenor, grittier but still lovely more than 40 years after his debut.
These Are the 50 Best Albums of All Time. From least to most acclaimed, see what hits made our top 50 list. The album is a lengthy record that showcases the transparency of the blues through Robert Johnson's emotive vocals and guitar playing. There are no bells and whistles, just low-down, gritty music that exposes the roots of the beginning of the art. Robert Johnson is not a household name, but the album shows that he was one of the main influences of music. 4 of 50. 47. Celia Cruz & Johnny Pacheco – Celia & Johnny (1974).
Has the best first 3 songs on any album. Easy Skanking sets the mellow tone of the album and has lush female backing vocals. Title track's lyrics are amazing. All touching the sky and falling rain. Nice Is This Love is the purest expression of infatuation; just beautiful. The production on the whole album is fantastic. Also includes two of my favourite Marley tracks: Could You Be Loved and Redemption Song, although all the others are quality as well. All in all a near perfect album! +6. Great tunes from start to finish +7.

It’s not their best album, but it’s the best at convincing serious young rock nerds that Devo were more than a silly footnote. 66. Derek and the Dominos, Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs (1970) For a band that only released one studio album, Eric Clapton, Duane Allman, Bobby Whitlock, Carl Radle and Jim Gordon sure made it count. 61. The Allman Brothers, Eat A Peach (1972) The first Allman Brothers Band album released after Duane Allman’s death is a sprawling beast that highlights every one of the band’s strengths. Chief among those are Duane’s mastery of the slide guitar and Gregg Allman’s incomparable voice, but Eat A Peach also underscores the band’s multifaceted songwriting proficiency, from the half-hour Mountain Jam to the plaintive pop of Melissa to the upbeat guitar calisthenics of Dickey Betts’ Blue Sky. -
Steve Ignorant has one of the best and most archetypal vocals in punk in my opinion & he shines on this album. I really like how it’s quite shambolic and all over the place, but at the same time fiercely intelligent and experimental in some places. You can hear echoes of this album not only in subsequent punk albums, but further afield too. 81. Jon Lucien Rashida (RCA Victor, 1973). According to Jon Lucien himself, the record company was attempting to package me as a sort of ‘black Sinatra’
