A penny for your thoughts my love A penny for your thoughts my love You’ll forget me You’ll forget me I’m sending out choirs of angels I’m trying to be a thought killer Tying round pieces of string A penny for your thoughts Pieces of string, oooh, oooh, oooh They distract me To run amok run amok ran amok

Listen free to Atoms for Peace – AMOK (Before Your Very Eyes. Atoms for Peace formed in 2009 to perform songs from Thom Yorke's 2006 album The Eraser. After the tour ended in 2010, the band spent three days jamming and recording original material in a Los Angeles studio. Describing his role in the sessions as "conducting", Yorke would show the band electronic music he had created and they would recreate it with live instruments. He said: "The music I do on my laptop is so angular.

For their first public performance, back in 2009, they performed Yorke's Godrich-assisted 2006 album The Eraser in its entirety, as well as some fresh material. Over three years later, they've come up with this, a product of jam sessions formed - by Yorke and Godrich - into a uniform nine-track album. It sounds more like a fleshier successor to Yorke's first solo album than it does a first step, and it's presented that way, from Stanley Donwood's woodcut illustrations to the band's name - the same as a track title on The Eraser.

Atoms for Peace is likewise his attempt to liberate himself from the burden of being Thom Yorke, shirking the added psychoanalytical interpretations that solo releases inevitably attract by receding into an all-star cast (complete with a name- cribbed from a Dwight Eisenhower speech and subsequent program by way of an Eraser track- that sounds like some one-off 1980s charity-single. From the similarly greyscale Stanley Donwood cover art on down, AMOK is essentially Yorke's follow-up to The Eraser, backed by the band that performed the album's songs during a handful of live dates over 2009-10: umentalist Nigel Godrich, Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea, David Byrne percussionist Mauro Refosco, and drummer Joey Waronker (.

Perfect pressing. Sounds rediculously good. Good job XL. Nice packaging too. If only this effort and attention to detail went into all vinyl releases.
Enalonasa
My pressing sounds like crap. Lots of cracks and bumps. Even after a wipe down. I'd opt for the other dlx version.
Tygralbine
What a remarkable album. What a new sound (although influences are apparent). The lyrics are poetic, sad and beautiful and the music videos that have been released are works of art. Well done.
Super P
Great music, great, packaging, great pressing. Can't however understand that S.A.D. is not included on the album. Imho their best song. Glad I got the 12". :-)
Tygokasa
I have one that has a double label mis-press. Has anyone else seen this? The record store convinced me to keep it as a collector. To confirm, it is the deluxe 45rpm debossed version.
Winasana
I bought this version and it seems to be playing on 78rpm ( I don't have a turntable that plays 78rpm so can't be sure ), but info on here and elsewhere online doesn't say anything about it. Any ideas on what's happening?
Bladebringer
My copy is definitely 45rpm. Seems to be a trend with Thom Yorke LPs.

I wonder where the 400 figure came from for this, I've seen it in the comments here and on several websites/blogs that covered the release., but nothing officially. If it's such a small handmade run they should've just numbered it.
roternow
Ha £258!!! you're 'avin a laugh mate! Just been put up on www.phonicarecords.com at a sensible £89 ;-)

Some leftovers are available directly from Matador/XL - http://shopusa.xlrecordings.com/amok-boxset
HyderCraft
There were loads of these box sets left over after the Amok Drawing Room finished. I should think they'll put them on sale somewhere else soon. They are £80.00.
Ochach
Here you go, guys. Leftover copies are now available at the XL webstore: http://shopusa.xlrecordings.com/amok-boxset
Lamranilv
yeah I know about the 400, again, it's only a rumor, I think I read it on the atease message board, some guy said he spoke a bit with Stanley at the Drawing Room event,or something like that. well yeah, rumor. and you're right about the shipping costs... oh well.
Mr.Champions
The set actually isn't that nice - the box is just an oversized cardboard mailer. And having a whole album split over 9 12"s is pretty unappealing, at least to me. So £80 seems about right.
Nilabor
I think you're right that these will be sold at forthcoming shows, rather than on their website. The shipping costs alone would be too complicated to make it worth while. Also, I'm not sure where this info about 400 copies made came from. It isn't numbered.
Ydely
unfortunately I don't think they will be put on for sale on their website. while there was still a lot left at the end, they're rumored to be a limited edition of 400. not much to put on sale on the store, so my guess is they will be touring with those and they'll be available at the merch stand. that's my guess. I'd love to be proven wrong.

besides the music: this is a true audiophile recording from xl recordings. so long you might have a good hifi-system, it's amazing! the artwork is of course amazing too.
Jaiarton
Very nice LP that slightly shifts gears at the mid way point. The first 4 tracks are brilliant and have that timeless epic feel.Over all, I would say this LP in many ways feels like a brotherly follow up to "The Eraser".The most surprising aspect of this album is that Flea is not spewing hyper active bass noodling all over the place. Thom and Nigel must have had the man sign a contract saying he would chill on the funk freak outs. Thankfully !
Gaua
Agree with everything you said, this album blew me away upon the first few listens.
Bremar
Possibly the best Vinyl packaging I have ever seen. Amazing artwork, beautifully designed and implemented. The album is fantastic too!
Hono
It's amazing with such great packaging and great music that this triple gatefold can be bought today new for less than when it came out. Sometimes the marketplace makes me scratch my head.
Vuzahn
brilliant vinyl presentation. pressing sounds immaculate and clean.
Ygglune
found the album was a grower. welcome addition to the collection
Marilbine
^ Seconded!Unfortunately, I didn't feel the songs matched up to that great sound. They're not terrible or anything, but I didn't find anything outstanding about them eithers. My 2¢
